I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on February 2, 1983. I was five years old and in kindergarden at the time. When the doctors explained what diabetes is they also said it would be cured by the time I was twenty. As a small child that time seemed like forever and that cure has never come. Each day I think about the day when we will no longer need insulin doses, blood glucose checks and help from friends and family just to live. I want to help make sure we will not still be waiting twenty years from now!
