Diabetic Angels

Hey Everyone!

I'd like to say hi to all the mothers who are diabetics and to those who are the moms of diabetic, because I think it is essential that moms support each other. I'm sure your experiences were similar to mine, but let me explain. When my daughter was younger and needed 24/7 care, people would frequently say to me., how do you do it? My response was always the same, it's not about me and what I have to do is nothing compared to what Mollie lives with every day. Yet people would say, I don't think I could keep your schedule, or I could never learn what I need to know to help my child live with diabetes, or they said, how did you get over having to give her shots? These comments never really bothered me, because somewhere along the line I realized I was probably just like them at one time, uninformed. I now know that, as a mother, no matter what life throws my way, no matter what I fear, I am capable of facing the toughest challenges and more important I, like all moms, are the ones who can help our children to become independent and strong, learn to responsibly manage their diabetes, and we can set the examples they will need to follow, we can live demonstrate the character they will need to endure a life with diabetes. Some of us have diabetes and some do not, either way as parents we have a job that requires we be multi-talanted, willing to learn, and endless patience...Kudos to all you moms who are doing such a great job, because I have met throngs of really cook kids!!

jackie,

You said it all! Its not about me. Its about my daughter and what she goes through each day. There are many people who do not understand. I must test my daughters BS every two hours. Its not a burden for me. I wish I could take the diabetes from her but since I can't its an honor to help her. I had a friend who would get angry every time the alarm went off at night to wake me to test my daughter BS. She felt I should not have to do that.
They don't realize its a 24/7 disease. I also know that I am capable of dealing with God help of course anything that diabetes can bring. My privilage as her mother is to help her become strong, mange her diabetes in a healthy way and live a long happy life. Thank you for your blog.
